Our Story
The Farm
Gesha Village Coffee Estate is a celebrated coffee farm in the lush forests of Ethiopia’s West Omo zone, near the South Sudanese border. Founded by Rachel Samuel and Adam Overton-who left successful creative careers in Los Angeles-the estate was inspired by their passion for coffee and partnership with renowned consultant Willem Boot. Their vision led them to establish a 471-hectare farm on a high plateau (1,900–2,100 meters) adjacent to the Gori Gesha forest, the birthplace of the famed Gesha coffee variety.
The estate is divided into eight distinct blocks and cultivates three main varieties: Gesha 1931, Gori Gesha, and Illubabor, all grown from carefully selected seeds. Over 730,000 coffee trees are interplanted with native shade trees, and 27% of the land is preserved as natural forest, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Gesha Village is renowned for its meticulous quality standards, innovative processing, and highly traceable microlots. Our coffees are prized for their floral, fruity profiles and exceptional sweetness, making them popular among specialty roasters worldwide. Beyond coffee, the estate supports the local Meanit community, protects the forest, and invests in education, standing as a model for responsible coffee farming.
